A major question I think determines true psychopathy is empathy. All psychopaths are narcissistic and narcs lack empathy. Lack of empathy along with some other traits would be the key in my opinion.

I'm all for people seeking therapy when they're overwhelmed or severely depressed, but when it comes down to it, all these diagnoses have one purpose... What always comes after the diagnosis? Meds. Diagnoses keep big pharma in business. Some people really do need psychotropic meds, but the vast majority do not. Im not criticizing those who take meds. Im criticizing the doctors who convince them that the meds are necessary.

Tony ... with a short fuse, needs very little to upset him. How to control your fuse courses should be free for everyone with training provided at schools for "becoming empathetic" in the time-honoured system of rewards. It is by the development of empathy that you know it might not be a pleasant encounter to drink with someone who has a short fuse and who finds empathic behaviour a complete mystery. where a mighty sound lessening thump will suffice. My dad was a bit like that.

I think there ratios of psychopathic people to non psychopathic is backwards. He said 1 in 100, or 1%. 290k thumbs up 14k thumbs down. That's 290k psychos or 95% to 14k non psycho or 5%. Personally I would say everyone on some level suffers from it. The ones who can't admit it, are the truly scary ones. (pssst that's the moral of the story)

Wow. That was crazy. Good thing to have these tools. Harder to prove yourself normal than prove you are insane. I can see that. Fascinating, yet perfectly understandable. Trying to be normal, could lead to being labeled a psychopath. That's frightening in many ways.

  • Anastassiya G

My sister and my husband think I’m a sociopath. I was diagnosed with bipolar, PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder. At first they told that those “sociopathic tendencies” are traits of bipolar disorder. Then they told me that my bipolar and GED are just traits of my PTSD, therefore I don’t have bipolar and GED, it’s all PTSD. Then they told me I don’t have any disorders, it’s just my personality. Then they told me I might have borderline personality disorder. Then after 9 years they told me I might have OCD. So was I ever diagnosed correctly? Is that the reason I can’t get better after going to psychiatrists and therapists for 9 years? In those 9 years I’ve tried about 20 different medications and somehow nothing works.

    This was strangely refreshing.
There are a lot of gray areas, and we are all human. And maybe should not be so defined by the outermost edges of the madness.
The back and forth was interesting- we do overdiagnose, etc, but that isn't to say that conditions aren't real... and on and on.
Food for thought. Made me think. So thank you.
