Welcome to The Untitled Cosmodore Video About Dinosaurs

    • eissetelse
      eissetelse Day ago

I can understand how someone who hasn't lost a father wouldn't resonate with The Good Dinosaur but even that aside, I was still deeply moved by the movie the first time I saw it. Me, my siblings and our Dad loved the movie. We were impacted and cried during it and my Dad was rarely moved to tears by an animated movie.
But after losing my dad and watching it again, it resonated with me in a whole new way.
I lost my dad suddenly and unexpectedly just as Arlo did and I don't know if this was ever an intention for the writers but to me, the rest of the movie following feels like the process of grief. The various, fickle, bipolar emotions and mood swings you go through.
Arlo is lost and trying to find his way back and at the end when he says goodbye to Spot, it feels like he's gotten over his grief and letting go of it.
Personally though, after 3 years, I don't feel I'm anywhere close to that but I've gone through and am still going through a lot of what Arlo faced.
I thought I'd share my outsiders insight with you so for when you're making your follow-up video, maybe you could keep that idea in mind.

idk if you're gonna see this but this but this movie is actually what made me hate pixar for what they did to the whole group of animators and editors. When they replaced the actors and higher ups, they also replaced the rest team as well. A family member of mine was stoked getting a job at pixar after working for another disney company for years and when they did the change up everyone was fired all the way down the ladder and from this my family member lost their job at pixar and lost a job working for a disney company. (/being in the disney family company thingy like abc/pixar/disney like land/world themselves, dunno if this makes sense but everyone in companies owned by disney is considered a disney employee)

Good thing Pixar has announced they’re finished with sequels for awhile. The next 5 they’ve got planned after Toy Story 4 are all originals

I remember the movie Dinosaur from the 2000 really well, but can't remember anything from the Good dinosaur. Anything.
The characters in Dinosaur were semi-realistic and story memorable. The CGI was ahead of its time.

Kinda sad that it was such a failure, I sorta liked it

  • Leira Whitehart
    Leira Whitehart Hour ago

To be honest, for me, the movie was too lonely. It was kinda just the two of them for most of the movie, and when you only have like one character and what is basically a semi-sentient dog, and they're all alone in the wilderness, it would kinda make for a naturally boring movie.
And the reason that is, at least in my opinion, is because they can't work off each other. When you only have one character that could speak and fully comprehend the world around them, it means a lot of one-sided conversations between a sentient being and a semi-sentient being. And that can feel very lonely and isolating.
He couldn't talk to Spot, or more specifically, he couldn't talk *with* Spot. And Spot himself didn't really have much in terms of personality, I mean, his personality was basically dog. Just dog. And dog isn't really much of a personality.
I mean, I guess it was kind of an interesting concept, flipping the tables in such a way where the human boy was the pet, but I dunno, maybe if they gave him a more distinct personality other than "just dog", maybe he would've been better.
He wouldn't have to talk, as I feel that would partly diminish the whole "boy and his pet" dynamic they were going for, but I dunno. As is, I feel like they could've done more to make Spot feel like an actual character instead of just an animal.
And yeah, I know he's supposed to act like an animal, I get that's the point, I'm just saying, they could've struck a balance.
And yes, of course there are also other characters besides the main two, but like Cosmodor said, they weren't there for very long, so they didn't really make much of an impact. Maybe if they lived in a small village, it would've felt a lot less lonely, instead of them being all on their own out in the middle of nowhere.

It makes total sense that Arlo's dad wasn't supposed to die originally, because his death was totally unnecessary (and forced). Also, this may seem nitpicky given everything else that was wrong, but I HATED that they made the humans act like wild dogs; even down to them howling and walking on all fours. It made no sense and just seemed very out of place. If the idea was to make them 'animals', why not have them act like APES? That would have at least made sense.

You can’t suspend disbelief; the character designs were *too* cartoony which looks out of place next to the beautiful backgrounds and it seems to just play as a bootleg version of Ice Age. It had elements of Brother Bear and Dinosaur but pales in comparison to both of those movies.

I admit good dinosaur wasn't the best Pixar movie but it was far from bad, I'm surprised it actually did not turn a profit. the movie I remember being worst from Pixar was the joke that was cars 2. now that was again not a bad movie but it was barely ok. that one is probably the last movie I would ever watch again from pixar

I rather liked The Good Dinosaur. Yes, it’s story was pretty cliche, nothing great but the visuals were spectacular. It was cars 3 (the disappointment) that ruined Pixar for me. Cars 3 also has no awards and was also a borderline flop, making only fifty million more than this one.

On your statement on "it makes you wonder how it stayed in theaters for so long when it wasn't doing well," I do not know for sure, because I started working in movie theaters shortly after this particular movie came out, but disney movies often have odd rules and restrictions on their movies to optimize profit, and essentially the theaters are told "either you do it our way or you don't get the movie at all" (though Marvel movies are pretty much unrestricted, in my experience, since they do well enough on their own). For example, all Pixar films and just general disney animated films have restrictions on ticket coupons, so for like the first week or two, we aren't allowed to accept any BOGO or half off coupons to enter the film, everyone has to pay full price. Several have required that the film be kept for a certain number of weeks, and there are rules on which theater it could be in. Star Wars had to be in our largest theater for 6 weeks, no exceptions. By the end we were regularly not showing it at all, since I lived in a smaller town, and we only had 3 screens lol. As I didn't work in a theater yet, I don't know if this movie did that, but I wouldn't put it past them to recognize it wasn't going to be as successful, and put restrictions on the release.

The story was supposed to be "what would happen if the dinosaurs didn't go extinct", but in the final version, that seemed like a pointless plot point, because it was just a cartoon with talking dinosaurs and a pet cave-kid, which doesn't need any explanation in a cartoon. If the movie had really explored deep into that "what if", it would have been a lot more interesting of a movie.
