Basically waited all my life from reading every single book 15 times over waiting for the movie that was hinted at in the trailer for the very first spy kids (And no there's no multiverse were missing out here) A movie they got dropped directly on its face. The unfortunate part is that with Disney acquiring The series it might have a good enough studio to do the animation and everything else required of this series. Disney’s hand is extremely corrupting and we’re looking to another possibility of a ruined Franchise they should’ve start with characters and actors closely resembling the graphic novel and I swear to god if they mess up Holly I’m walking out little movie.

I've read the series twice - in childhood and after army at 24 y.o. Disney broke a lot of things, this included. In just this one trailer there is nothing right, Butler, Artemis, Root, even the fairy scene. 100% broken movie.

So they made butler black and a little chubby - guess its a minor deviance all things considered, the guy was always a meat mountain who stood out in a crowd, making him black doesn't really change much. More irritated by some of the other changes, especially the changes to holly. On the other hand making her younger does give them a chance to work a little more romance into the series from the getgo, which the book series lacked and added belatedly. Guess we'll see where it goes, as long as they don't start cutting corners - and entire races - like they did with Eragon.
I like the new voice of commander rood, sounds like someone who has smoked way, way too many cigars.

Holly Short in Artemis Fowl is the very first female officer in the LEP Force, and faces a lot of hardship because of that fact, shaping her into the tough character she is. Julius Root, the male head of that organization, is at first very hard on her because of that fact, and that he knows she can be the best officer the Force has and stick it to the sexists. Over time, he becomes a father figure and mentor to her and it's devastating when he dies. In this version, Root was cast as a woman, destroying a vital part of Holly's character and Root's as well. Holly no longer has that drive to become the best she can be and Root therefore has no reason to be hard on her because of that. Just maybe because of her "potential" or whatever. Congratulations Hollywood. You played yourself.

I've read all the books throughout my tween life. This trailer itself doesn't ring any memories. Also, why is Artemis not that pale, and why is his cheeks so chubby? In the book, he was a skinny kid with a villainous and intelligent brain, but it doesn't seem that way when I see this trailer.

Though I know it's already been said I have to ask what in the world possessed them to make Commander Root a woman. It completely neuters Hollys story of being the first female LEP officer, actually damaging the pro female theme, and removing the father-daughter relationship they are supposed to have. It's a damn shame because I would have really liked a movie that stayed closer to the books. Yes the point of an adaptation is to change things up and bring something new to the table, but if the new stuff is inferior to the old then it's still a change for the worse.

1:00 Interesting choice, having her rapidly de-age and then gracefully rise into the air. Here's the book's version of that sequence:

    "Nice doing business with you."

The sprite lurched to her knees. "The other potion, human?"

Artemis smiled. "Oh yes, the restoring booster. I suppose I did promise."

    "Yes. Human promised."

"Very well. But before we administer it, I must warn you that purging is not pleasant. You're not going to enjoy this one bit."

The fairy gestured around her at the squalid filth. "You think I enjoy this? I want to fly again."

Butler loaded the second vial, shooting this one straight into the carotid artery.

The sprite immediately collapsed on the mat, her entire frame quivering violently.

"Time to leave," commented Artemis. "A hundred years of alcohol leaving a body by any means possible is not a pretty sight."

Look Disney don't over dramatize this. Don't make it personal to make this some dumb revenge story. This is magic ocean's 13, keep it intelligent, we don't want or need anither Harry potter stumbling around bumping into solutions to all of his first book problems, we need Fawl to be brilliant to make us feel like we're not near his intelligence.
We need Butler to to be massive and intimidating but yet one of the most lovable.
And while I'm disappointed in LEP not being the sexist organization it should be with Holy being the test case with a lot riding on her i and im sure plenty of others still will enjoy and easily disregard that if you still recreate that pressure and judgement on her character.

If the movie isn't at least pg-13 then it's gonna be dead on arrival. What makes the series compelling is how the dark tone juxtaposes the fantasy setting; how Artemis counteracts magic with cold, unfeeling, hard technology. Disney will compromise the integrity and unique identity of the book in order to market it to a wider audience, mark my words. They'll completely miss the point that the reason why the book was popular in the first place isn't just because of its premise, but because of its execution. They'll think that because kids read it, it's a story for kids and only kids. Essentially the same thing that happened to a Series of Unfortunate Events. Sucks because I've literally been waiting for this movie since elementary school.

This movie needs a non-teaser trailer so it can be part of trending. If it doesn't do that, it'll fail in the box office and I do not want that. I'm *really sick* of seeing low ratings and low box office scores for live-action Disney films and I've already e-mailed them to do anything I can to make them realize it. I don't care if animated films are where they really shine. The same has to go for the live-action format.

For the people complaining about the slight changes to the plot. They have to do them. Just like in the first Harry Potter you can’t always adapt a book to a movie to closely or it won’t be that good of a movie. They need to add more action so it’s more appealing to everyone.
