Simple Chocolate Cake Recipe Demonstration -

  • Recipe here: Stephanie Jaworski of demonstrates how to make a Simple Chocolate cake. This is my "go to" Chocolate Cake. I make it for family dinners, birthdays, and everything in between. I really like the combination of two types of chocolate. Unsweetened cocoa powder is used in the chocolate cake and a dark chocolate (semi sweet or bittersweet) is used in the frosting.

      You should only use the lower heating element.

    I baked this chocolate cake and it turned out so perfect. It's very moist and very yummy. I was amazed how easy it is and how it turned out to be so perfect. It's the best chocolate recipe so far for me.

      It just adds a touch of flavor. It doesn't affect the color.

    3:36 finally! Thank you, a recipe with no butter. US pastry uses a lot of butter and here in my country we don't have good butter, it always leaves you with an unpleasant aftertaste.

      Cupcakes typically take between 16-20 minutes at 350 F (180 C).

    Joy: This is pretty much Hershey's chocolate cake recipe on the back of their cocoa powder can and it really is an Excellent moist chocolate's better if you use a cup of hot coffee really brings out the chocolate flavor....

      Yes, there is a difference in flavor between natural and Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder.

      I used Dutch processed unsweetened cocoa powder but you can use natural as well.

    I tried your recipe today. I am not a great baker. The middle of my cake either rose and fell or didn't rise at all. What did I do wrong? My oven bakes too fast so I reduced the heat to 325 and the pans were dark baking pans.

    The icing was to sweet. Was not happy with it. I had to use cocoa to tone down the sweetness.

      The sweetness of the frosting will depend on the type of chocolate you use. If you don't want the frosting sweet, then I would use a bittersweet chocolate, one with a 70% cacao content.

    Great recipe. Cake came out soft and didn’t harden even 3 days later. (Don’t refrigerate; makes it kind of chewy like brownie)

      When sugar is used in baking, it not only adds sweetness but it also adds volume, tenderness, texture, color, and acts as a preservative. So if you want to reduce the amount of sugar you will have to experiment with the amount and then see if you like the results.

    This was the best chocolate cake i ever ate,it came out so good,it was so moist,and i think it was because of the oil,the butter would have made it firmer when it got cold.

    Hello Ms Stephanie I tried the cake today I just used 1 9 inch pan and baked for 30min but it was still sticky when toothpick inserted so baked for another 10 min but it shrunk in the middle and it started breaking what went wrong please

      This recipe calls for baking the batter in two 9 inch pans. The problem was that you baked it in one pan. Because the batter is so deep when you use one pan, the center probably didn't get baked enough, causing it to sink. If you want to use one pan, you would need to use a tube pan.

    Thanks Stephanie. I made this for my son's birthday and it was really yummy. BTW, my cake had big wrinkles on top. Can you tell me what was the reason for this?
    I frosted the cake with American buttercream. Despite the thin layer of frosting, some commented it was too sweet. Next time I bake this cake, I will try cream cheese frosting with little sugar.

    Dear Stephanie, I made this yesterday, it came out too well. I used cup measure only, still it came out excellent. Thank you very much for this recipe. To control the calories I omitted the frosting. To keep the moisture up, I kept the cake covered till it cooled down. My daughter gave me a 👍. It was melting in the mouth

      I haven't tested this recipe in a microwave so I couldn't say. Generally cakes do not bake that well in a microwave compared to a conventional oven.
