Should have talked more about Owen Hart's death, and how Vince McMahon decided to go on with the rest of the show right after Owen had just fallen to his death. Many people suspect the show was not canceled because McMahon didn't want to have to give refunds.

C'mon, WWE fans! You have the power to change your favorite wrestler's lives. Get them that union! This episode is really eye opening. I don't watch wrestling. I didn't know the organization was that shitty.

how can you be disgusted at a white man for saying the n-word (not saying it is okay) but not be mad at an african american for saying the same? How is it not racist to say that an African American can do something but a white man cannot? Just because their is history involved, does not mean that it suddenly is no longer racist to say one race can do something while another cannot solely based on race....

Question: How much money does the average WWE wrestler make in their career? I only ask because that plays into whether or not we should care about their medical problems. I.E someone that made 60k a year doing this should have medical coverage but someone that pulled in 300k a year should probably have been more responsible with their money.

"on average, a WWE wrestler on the roster makes $500,000 a year" ... I'm not saying John is wrong here, but wtf are these wrestlers doing with that kind of money and not properly preparing for the future?

    • Shane Simms
      Shane Simms 2 days ago

@Chris Hernandez Right I definitely get that, but if the "Average" is $500,000 at least how many are making less than six figures? I'm just saying that you can't remove the factor of personal responsibility and blame everything at the WWE. Not saying the system doesn't need to change, but its not 100% the system's fault. These guys know what they're getting into and it seems they aren't using their money wisely in many instances. I'd agree with John's whole video if a substantial portion of these guys were only making $40,000 a year, but they are clearly getting paid a HUGE premium, on average, to endure the factors above you mention.

    • Chris Hernandez
      Chris Hernandez 2 days ago

Most WWE wrestlers (at least the ones that aren't top players) have to pay for their travel expenses, food, hotels, rental cars, training, healthcare, etc. since they are "independent contractors" and the company doesn't provide that to them. Note also that these wrestlers don't have an off season and are obligated to work or be present on all the dates that WWE makes them. They work multiple days a week, year-round so those costs go way up real fast. Not to mention the likely injury or two along the way which only bumps up the expenses. And just cause 500k is the average doesn't mean that they're all making that much. A lot of the lower-tier talent get paid comparatively lower salaries but yet are still expected to pay for everything.

Worth noting: the reason the Saudi government is going on this bonanaza of big ticket entertainment events is to try to lure in foreign investment and diversity their economy away from oil. The workforce in Saudi Arabia is almost entirely foreign born, working for the numerous international oil contractors. Even though SA has the largest deposits in the world, very few native people there actually know the first thing about how to operate an oil rig-its all done by foreign contractors. And the SA government subsidizes its citizens to the point that you literally have a couple of generations who do not know how to work; we complain about ppl living on the government dole here in the US, but we got nothing on SA. But as the nations of the world look to diversity how they meet their energy needs, and as global oil prices tanked in the last decade or so, SA sees a future where oil will no longer be the dominant energy source and when that happens they will be SOL-unless they diversify away from oil themselves ASAP. Its also why they are going on a bonanza of buying up military hardware-they see a near future where they won’t be able to just rely on the USA, Europe, or Russia to guarantee their safety anymore. Now, the USA could use this unprecedented situation to leverage reform out of the SA government like greater democracy, rights for religious and ethnic minorities, equality for women, etc. But nah, lets just keep pumping them with military equipment, no questions asked. It will all turn out okay in the end, right?

There is a tax form contractors can complete that has the IRS look at the contracts and can change the business structure on the employer. I believe this happened to Blackwater/Xe services. Then what happens is you are considered an employee but you owe back taxes. As a contractor, you complete a schedule c and can write off business expenses. An employee structure may be different for the wrestlers. I am not sure an Employer has to provide benefits. With the changes to ACA I am under the impression any tax penalties have been removed. However some States require certain benefits, which an employer can avoid by moving the HQ to another state.

No one is FORCED to become a Wrestler. If you don't like the policy of the company, don't work for them. The WWE or any Wrestling Company is not responsible if someone becomes addicted to pain meds, the person abusing them is responsible. People die at ALL ages. To say WWE is to blame for people's deaths is Bullshit in most cases. I can go with the unfortunate accident of Owen Hart where the cable broke or came undo, either way, the act itself messed up, causing Owen to fall and the impact killed him. These people get into Wrestling, climb to the top and their egos won't allow them to do the right thing and heal up cause they don't want to lose their spot. That's on THEM! If someone dies from heat stroke, should the Construction Company the person worked for be responsible? No! Anyways, to blame the WWE for all the bad shit is moronic now, was back then and will be so in the future. Stop giving free passes to the people who, if smart read the contract but signed it anyways. Their actions are just that, THEIR actions. If they agree to not have medical coverage, blame them for agreeing to it rather then Vince not offering it. They should speak up and ask for it, or even insist on it and if he still refuses, it is then up to them to cave in and sign anyways or walk away. So sick of people not being held accountable for their own actions. Like I said, no one is forced to become a wrestler or even sign a contract they do not fully agree with. That's on them, end of story, PERIOD!

Making EVERYTHING a script, written by non-wresting fans... Thereby KILLING the performers desire to be there by forcing them to read crap they would never say on their own. Killing their reputations with fans, and ability to negotiate contracts, to make a decent living.

  • Swol Team 6

As a 29 year old life long wrestling fan, who stopped watching 5 years ago, and hates this shows kind of humor, cannot disagree with anything in this.
Some of the biggest names in the business, HATE being there, and are trying to get out of their contracts... BUT WWE has a clause that you cant wrestle anywhere else for the next year or so, killing the opportunity to make a living... Independent contractors...
I've basically been waiting for Vince to croak, since 2008, cause Idk what else will fix my first love, and make it watchable again.

Worse than Michael Scott. his line delivery and body language afterwards is just cringey. not evil, just cringey... and that walk... not villainous, just cringey.
I think the black guy (based on his reaction) agrees, it wasn't offensive, just cringey.
