How the Thunder failed to win a title after drafting three MVPs in a row

  • Published on Aug 10, 2019
  • The Oklahoma City Thunder had Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden on the same team under the age of 24. They made a run to the 2012 NBA Finals before losing to LeBron James and the Miami Heat. From there, it was all downhill for OKC.

In no way shape or form is that 9th seed year Scott Brooks fault! That was Presti's worst mistake as president in my opinion. That young core and Brooks' coaching style and develop expertise were a match made in heaven. The owner should've fired him at that point!

I know this is a basketball vid but
you guys should do a collapse on the Bills.
They lost 4 super bowls in a row. 1 was close the rest were by 13 or more points. They haven't sniffed a 2nd round of the playoffs since then. I'm a Lions fan and that's a whole new level of pain and dispair😂

Sam Presti would be known (along with maybe Danny Ainge) as the two best GMs in the NBA if they lived in somewhat desirable cities for NBA players. they definitely blew it with the not signing Harden then blew it once again with the package they received for Harden. However, this all fell apart due to Kevin Durants selfish, babyish decision to sign with Golden State. (yes he had the right and blah blah blah) but nobody that's a true competitor would ever do that. imagine if Jordan got sick of losing to the Celtics and Pistons in the early part of his career and joined the Bird, McHale, Parrish celts? or the Isiah Thomas, rodman, lambier pistons? KD could have turned any franchise he met with that summer into an instant contender but instead went to a team that just beat them, barely lost the finals after winning it all the previous year. any real athlete would have wanted revenge and would be so excited for the following years playoffs. it would have been great for the NBA to have the Warriors, Thunder, Cavs, Spurs (with Leornand) all having a great chance to win it all then teams like Portland, Boston, Atlanta, Houston and the Clippers with an okay shot at winning it if certain things went right for them. instead we got golden state then a huge gap, then lebrons cavs….. then the rest of the NBA.

scurry is a better player than kd. kd is so weak mentally. look at this vid.. he thinks he wants sth so he positions himself to get it at the expense of basically trashing everything else. then everyone on his damn new tean defers to him even when they dont have to so he can finally win and then he feels and does what? the dude will never belong amonst the greats like mj, kb, magic, not even lebron. at the end of the day scurry is a better player than he is overall counting metality, leadeship, and other intangibles

They traded away Paul George as well. I think Paul George if stay in okc for another year would of no doubt won MVP the following year . Cause Westbrook would of took a d wade seat and Paul George would of room a lebron role. NBA period just be lackluster cause so many teams could of been better .

I'm amazed you haven't done the Italian National Team's collapse after the 2006 World Cup. ⚽️⚽️ In every World Cup following they made history, finishing last in their seemingly very easy group in 2010 (where their opponents were Paraguay, Slovakia, and New Zealand, all considered lightweights and none of whom even qualified for the following two world cups), then after defeating England in their opening match in 2014, collapsed massively, losing to Costa Rica and Uruguay to fail to make it out of the group stage twice in a row for the first time in history. And then, just when you thought they couldn't possibly sink any further, they failed to *even qualify* for the 2018 World Cup!
Then there's the constant match-fixing scandals, corruption, and bribery that's rampant in the Italian leagues. There's Marcelo Lippi, who lead them to glory in 2006, retired, then was brought out of retirement for 2010, only to lead them to their worst ever finish where they couldn't defeat a lowly New Zealand team. Then there's their match against Slovakia, arguably the craziest match of all-time, where controversy was high after two goals (both of which would've been scored by Quagliarella) were controversially disallowed (one a goal line clearance that appeared to just barely cross, one a controversial offside call that replays showed was onside. This was before Goal Line Technology and VAR), promptingboth match-fixing conspiracies, as well as massive questions for Lippi as to why he sat Quagliarella until the second half of the the final game (where, despite the disallowed goals, he was directly involved in two goals, scoring one and being the entire reason the second happened, breaking down a five-man defense with only one teammate to help him). And then there's the fact that despite that collapse and Lippi's firing, their new savior appeared to have arrived in Quagliarella, only for his play to fall off a cliff (which we later found out was because he was being gruesomely stalked by a deranged private investigator who tricked him into hiring him to investigate the stalking and not telling anyone about it. This lasted until after his career was over). But then another apparent savior arrived in Mario Balotelli (who scored both goals in a semifinal upset over favorites Germany in Euro 2012), only for a bit of self-made controversy and *a lot* racism and horrible treatment from fans to do his career in as well.
And I'm only scratching the surface. There are so many more layers to this story, you guys *have* to do a Collapse episode on it!

Cael Maslin Trust me, Serge had to leave. He used to make all the other Thunder players feel uncomfortable in the locker room because he was experimenting with his homosexuality so once the players let the GM know, they made a trade immediately

    • Cael Maslin
      Cael Maslin 2 days ago

@First N Last Notice that they put big 4 on the thumbnail to emphasize that Serge was a big part of their core as well and, like Durant, won a NBA championship. Just not with the Thunder. Just pointing out that another one of OKC's core contributors from the 2012 team won it all elsewhere.

The Thunder beat the Heat in game 1 of the Finals so should be the champions in my opinion....A championship should be one game not multiple...all the extra games are just for the league to make more money....
