That's one of those cars we need VINwiki to pull the backstory on, probably a good one. Rich guy buys T/A, waits a yr for factory delivery in special order color, wipes out on turn one first day on track, scraps the T/A, and....?

If y'all are welding on really thin aluminum you can use a steel backup plate so your weld won't fall though and it won't stick to the steel. Also if you're welding on thin steel you can back it up with a aluminum block. 😋

About that egg shaped front wheel u had there , it is actually repairable . the valuable part of the wheel is the part that connects to the suspension. Sry i'm not a native speaker , used to live in the US but thats about a 20 years ago so i'm not that good with special vocabulary about car parts etc.. The i think it is called wheel rim from where it is connected to the suspension up the outer part on which the tire is put upon , that is actually the pricey and important part of your wheel. If you take it to a proffenional reapir guy he should acutally be able to repair it by building a new wheel around it.
We did that on a set of wheels for a Mitsubishi GT3000. We had a set of pretty rare wheels that were not build anymore so we couldn't order some new ones and finding used ones in good shape ranged from 1500-2500 which was a lil' to pricey for our taste. that repair was supposed to be around 700€ per wheel , in the end it turned out to be 900 but the work was 1a quality. Dunno if u guys have such a dealer around, we sent it in , took about 3 weeks , but then we had our 2 wheels back. 2nd was only a minor repair compared to the completly busted one.
So i'd recommend to actually keep that egged wheel and find out if you can repair it . After all it is the original wheel and should it work , you could be selling your new wheel or keep it 4 backup.

Shouts out from Berlin / Germany / Europe , take care guys
AND GET THOMAS MORE INTO THE PICTURE ! Make a sticker of him and put it back onto your wall in that garage or yours ;oP

hey guys, just a tip/trick from an old welder... when doing wire aluminum welding and working on really thin materials, clamp a piece of STEEL to the back side of the aluminum for support. you can weld a little hotter, and burn-through wont be an issue. the steel behind it will keep the weld from blowing through... and the magic is that it'll fall right off afterwords because the aluminum obviously wont stick to it. then you can just grid off anything on the back side that happened to burn through.on really thin materials like these body panels, it can also act a little bit as a heat-sink to slow down heat spread and warping. try it on some scrap and you'll see what I'm talking about. this is especially useful if you have large gaps to fill.
