    If I ordered a meatball sandwich and someone gave me a sausage, fennel, and pesto sandwich I'd punch them in the face. I'm sure it tastes good but that is not a meatball sub on any level, rolling your sausage into balls doesn't make it a meatball.

    did i miss the parts where you added lemon zest/strips to sausage/sauce and/or grated Parmesan and pine nuts to pesto? i know they're not necessary, but i like those flavors with sausage and tomato. other than those differences, i wouldn't change a thing.

    Italian here: pesto is a sauce tipically of vegetables and oil PLUS nuts and or cheese. A sauce is anything liquid cooked, and a sugo is what remains after a long cooking procedure. So the one by Carla is a Basil sauce, while if she would have put in cheese and or nuts it would be a pesto, even if inside a food processor.

    ok, i am terrible at guesstimating weight too, but since you know you are getting 3 meatballs per sausage, wouldn't it just be easier to cut the sausage in thirds, remove each skin and then roll each third into a ball? or make 4 smaller meatballs per sandwich with means you need to cut the sausages in quarters which is even easier
