  • The outlaws made headlines. The lawmen made history. Watch The Highwaymen on Netflix March 29, 2019.
From director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), THE HIGHWAYMEN follows the untold true story of the legendary lawmen who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, two former Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done. THE HIGHWAYMEN also stars Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, and Kim Dickens.

I just want to see I finally saw this. Fantastic film. Fabulous cast. I appreciate that they didn't glorify Bonnie and Clyde. They were cold blooded murderers. Plain and simple.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that would have been the 1967 version of Bonnie and Clyde with Faye Dunaway, Warren Beatty, Gene Hackman, Estelle Parsons, Michael J Pollard and Denver Pyle as Hamer, to name a few. Really romanticized them. I believe it was Harper's Bazaar magazine that did a photo shoot with Faye Dunaway in 30s inspired clothing around the time of the release. They made a handsome pair of outlaws for sure.

If you like this movie and still read books read “Texas Ranger” The Epic Life of Frank Hamer” and “The Johnson-Sims Feud” otherwise known as Romeo and Juliet West Texas style. Franks wife Gladys was a Johnson who married Ed Sims at fourteen when Ed was twenty one. Their families owned huge ranches, twenty thousand acres and fifty thousand acres. It was not a happy marriage, Gladys and Ed divorced and she shot him in the town square in 1916 during a child visitation gone wrong for their two daughters. Gladys met Frank when her wealthy father hired The already famous Frank Hamer as a body guard. They fell in love and stayed married for the rest of their lives. There were other shootouts involving Gladys and Frank from Sims relatives, one in broad daylight on the town square in Sweetwater Texas witnessed by the entire town.

You can’t make this stuff up, there are two other movies to be made here, Kevin are you listening?

What I don't get is why when they're talking about Bonnie and Clyde's life before they met, they don't mention that before they met Bonnie was married to a small-time crook called Ray. She dropped out of school when she was 16 to marry him thinking that this would be her movie-fairy-tale-romance and instead got an alternatively absent and abusive husband.
I'm not denying that they were criminals or how many people they killed. I'm just saying that an abusive past shouldn't be left out when you're telling their story, along with the fact that her husband went to jail for robberies not for hitting his wife. I think the reason why people look up to them is because they actually got out of the life they were born into. They wanted, they waited, and they got nothing for it, so they decided to take rather than waiting for others to give. And as they went along they lost more and more of who they might (and I said might) once have been.

Another shitty, typical american/netflix movie. GET REAL! You and your rangers, yeah they were caught, but not like this, all smiles and jokes, but after some tough years chasing after a mere couple who were against the system yet smarter than those rangers. Now don't get me wrong, I barely know their story, but I know how you americans love to make fun on the bad guys when in real life it wasn't and it's never like this, coz on the movies you're the flawless, catche'em-quick kinda cops, but IRL they just outsmart you all so much that it would ruin your entire reputation if a movie were made portraying the whole truth behind these ops.

clyde was a victim of the system he was forced to work as a slave in prison and the labor was so painstaking that he cut off his toes just to get off.. he was also brutally raped in prison and he couldnt have sex with bonnie because it would bring back traumatic memories. bonnie and clyde were both dirt poor and in those times hunger was a real threat. I believe they were heros of the people because they robbed the banks, the banks robbed the people. the banks were at fault for the great depression, it was their greed.

Great movie that captures the spirit of Hamer and gives a general feel for the times. But it not accurate to what actually happened. 95 % of it didn't happen. Still waiting for an accurate movie to what happened.

Yeah, this was a great movie. Definitely portrays Bonnie and Clyde as they deserve to be: cold blooded killers. I did some light research after watching this movie about B & C and even read some of Bonnie's poetry. Even then, B and C were portrayed correctly in this movie. This was a great movie. Granted, they shot B and C all to hell, but I don't think they could take any chances with them.

Great movie. I enjoyed every minute of it. Netflix....thanks for making a movie with no SJW connotations whatsoever. These kinds of movies showing how things got done back in the day is a real treat. Also, depicting Bonnie and Clyde as the real monsters they were gave me and hopefully other viewers the same hopes that they would be stopped, before they sent any more families to the breadline.

For all of you talking about how "historically accurate" this is for one thing Bonnie never killed anybody. At the time of the Easter Sunday massacre Bonnie had injuried her leg in a car accident making her unable to walk on it. For the rest of her short life she either hopped for short distances or had Clyde carry her. So she could have never walked up with a shotgun. It was physically impossible.
