Everything Wrong With Star Trek Beyond In 17 Minutes Or Less

  • Published on Dec 13, 2016
  • Star Trek Beyond, the third entry to this current series, is actually pretty fun, and was a bright spot in a horrible summer of movies. Still not perfect, so here are its sins.
    Thursday: Another space movie.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

I actually really liked this one. Of the Abrahmsverse Treks, it's the one closest to the original timeline. I like the first and third one. The second one had nice ideas but the execution missed the mark.

Still laughing about the line about the green hand, its appearance in the end credits, and the nod to the opening act of the Original Series episode "Who Mourns for Adonais" - with the giant green projected force field hand of Apollo.

Your abundance of vulger language does not instill a sense of anticipation in your revelation of this movie's shortcomings so when I see it I will enjoy it on it's own merits

Its not that the Federation didn’t have cloaking technology. They just were not allowed to implement it because of a treaty with the Romulans or Klingons... I forget which...

I think the part where Bones fixes Spock's injury after landing would've been worth a couple sins off, especially with Spock's delivery of "horse shit!"

He's talking about the odds of landing close and completely ignores the fact 3 of them were let off in capsules very close together very close to the surface, making the odds pretty high of being close together if they just plummeted

These holographic cloaking technology wouldn´t work on ships because a holograph doesn´t mask the warp signature aso. so the enemy ships sensors would be able to see the ship no problem. Maybe when you somehow get the shields to deflect the enemys sensors but...damn the ST nerd in me is strong.^^

Okay could we JUST FOR ONCE have a Star Trek movie where the Enterprise DOESN'T somehow get destroyed??? It's becoming a really worn out plot trope with Abrams. Otherwise the next films might as well be titled Star Trek: Into The Alphabet and Star Trek: Beyond Repair

Actually they wouldn't be able to stand still if the ship wasn't spinning... my biggest gripe with the whole star trek thing is people walking down corridors or standing still while the ship is in a fixed position. No inertial force means no gravity on a spacecraft :)

To be an a**hole, federation has cloaking technology, but it doesn’t use it because it could cause a war with the romulans

When the hull is breached by the hive ships a forcefield would have gone up around it preventing the loss of atmosphere. Been times whole parts of the ship have been missing and nothing but a forcefield between them and space. Another sin off.

as a treki I son't think that beastie boys song in battle doesn't give out the ominous feeling you are supposed to get, this type of enterprise is a big space highschool with the most popular kids on the bridge or the most senior rank, that movie series doesn't follow the stoic vibe of the original, TNG, DS9, and Voyager. The actor personality's are juvenile and reckless and not showing the hart breaking dramatical scenes that the OG and TNG show, this makes the audience feel the characters pain, anxiety, and self sacrifice. Instead its a big party with a narcissistic captain Kirk, a always clumsy Scotte, also this Spock is like a super hero with super stamina, dead aim, and a different personality all together, I will watch them for a cool CGFX show but as far as the plot or the acting skills of the main characters shows that non of them were ever into star trek and nether was the director, even the script writers took elements of the star trek encyclopedia without watching every episode that is available on netflix, if they don't fall in love with the NCC 1701 A Enterprise of a Constitution class starship yet they redesigned it to look more like a small NCC 1701 Enterprise E a Sovereign with a later version of the warp nacelles from Star Trek 2. Sorry but the only prerequisite of the director and screen play designer, along with the script author ALL MUST BE TREKKIES or it simply doesn't work for true Trekkies like myself that watched every sunday a new TNG episode then DS9, this is how I learned English when I was 10yo, when me and my mom flew to the US for good I knew how to say tee and coffee only, so it took me 4 years to learn on my own, the ESL classes sucked because they didn't have a Polish Speaker only Spanish ESL teachers back in San Diego.

not able to be suitably operated on.
    "inoperable cancer of the pancreas"
synonyms: untreatable, incurable, beyond cure, beyond surgery, irremediable; More
    not able to be operated.
"the airfield was bombed and made inoperable"
synonyms: unusable, out of action, out of order, out of service, not in service, not operative, not in operation, not working, nonactive, unable to be used
"the airfield was bombed and left inoperable"

He has a vendetta towards starfleet, therefore anyone whos in starfleet, IE KIRK.
Pretty sure there was a thing where some factions agreed against using cloak technology. Could be wrong.

Answer: because maybe you need higher clearance to use the transporter and the train is for the general public

Or maybe because if you actually watch star trek there are still people even in the 24th century who dont like using transporters. You see this several times in TOS and even in TNG, DS9, and Voyager

Why would Hikaru Sulu being gay in a Star Trek movie be the antithesis of "acting?" Does George Takei know about this? Or was J J Abrams correct in his assertion that Spock would be the only personality of a character that could truly subsist in this universe? Once again, I hope that these people are wrong.

0:37 okay, i shoulda raised an eyebrow to this particular scene the first day you posted this sin video. of course, it's a great scene and all, but still, you're telling me that Kirk never knew the actual size of those fuckers from the very beginning? he literally just put on his "WTF face" right he saw they were tiny. and i'm like doing a similar face as well, but because how the fuck could Kirk be so surprised by this?
