The new OverPowered line of gaming PC's from Walmart got slammed by other reviewers. While they do not sell these in Canada, we went down to US and got one to see for ourselves.

I bought a pc from a computer store, at first I could play games nicely, but now when I enter a game my computer turns off and on. I think the GPU overheats even if I have the fans working on 100%, could anyone tell me what to do?

  • John Kim

I think it would have been nice, for you to remove the single channel and put in a dual 8gb ram to see if that helped with the performance to really show where they went wrong on the performance side as well

As Linus said, ill take performance and stability over pretty lights any day.... and that also includes a decent motherboard.... and looking at the game benchmarks, i'd say the difference in performance between the Dell PC and the Walmart PC, might possibly be in the cheap motherboard that Walmart used....

Linus are you taking the piss!
    Competitive prices for the specs.
    1. The hardware they offer is overpriced where ever you look.
    2. The hardware is overpriced coming from walmart themselves.
It'd be better if they offered full AMD machines at a fair price
If your actually looking to build a highend pc for $1500 you could get something way more powerful if you went all AMD instead of intel & nvidia.
A full system built with all AMD components and all of your $1500 would beat a intel & nvidia machine that cost your $1500.

See its MicroATX MB. You have been to China, you saw what all components you can get there, its crazy. They get these flashy RGB cases, which sort of gives a visual appeal but has crappy internals, like the USB2 ports. Thats why they added the USB Type C to the back with this add on. Both these 2 combined are far cheaper than a good case. I wouldn't be surprised if the RGB fans stop working after a couple of months.

It seems they consulted with a young guy in the gaming industry for the specs but handed over the assembly job to an old Computer Engineer who was working in the office.
Explains the whole "good, up-to-date specs with old and outdated hardware and assembly practices" part quite well.

12:07 - "Single channel memory cuts your bandwidth, effectively, in half."
Does this mean that in the instance of - [1x16gb] OR [2x8gb] where they're both 3600mhz C16, and it doesn't matter if I use one slot or two - that the [2x8gb] is a better choice? Looking to build my first PC and I'm trying desperately to learn something q.q

Partition may be used to protect a computer from the user files, so if it's just a virus just delete the users or format the partition. In a company I think it would work, I don't know about 4 for probably a single user

  • Diecast Arts
    Diecast Arts 2 days ago

just note I will not buy the that PC.. but I would be happy with the partitions being done.. it would just save me the time from doing it myself.. if it like 1TB or more harddrive it best to partition it a few times. main reason is if I had to do Scans. like disk or virus it wouldn't take days to scan the whole harddrive. even with 250Gbs it can take up to 8 or 9 hours to do a scan.
