    The arrow went 3,700 feet up in the air. I got this because in total the arrow took was 18.50 seconds to come up and down. So you divid 18.25 * 2 = 9.25 and times by 400 because it goes 400 feet per send one and = 3,700 feet.

      You are incorrect. The speed of the arrow in unknown and it is a variable not a constant. The correct method would be to start with the acceleration caused by gravity (g=32.2feet/s), integrate 2 times with respect to time and you get distance=(g*t^2)/2. so distance = (32.2*9.25^2)/2 = 1378 feet

    @5:12 ... how fast was it coming down? ... physics 8th grade: energy is conserved, so ... exactly at the speed as it started when it went up (neglecting air resistance which is small for an arrow with this cw efficient shape)....guess: 350feet/s .... or lets use proper unit's like the rest of the world: 106m/s or 380km/h

    For all metric people (Non-americans) if flight time 18.5 seconds up hence maximum height achieved at 9.25 seconds. From ground to peak height:
    Final velocity = 0m/s, Initial velocity (U) = unknown, Acceleration "Gravity" (a) = -9.8m/s^2 , time (t)= 9.25.
    Use formula "V = U + a x t" rearrange equation to find initial velocity
    0 - (-9.8m/s^2)x9.25sec = U = 90.65m/s. Velocity arrow left the crossbow

    Distance derived by equation: S = Ut + (1/2) x a x t^2
    S = 90.65m/s x 9.25sec + (1/2) x -9.8m/s^2 x 9.25sec^2
    S = 838.5125 -419.25625 = 419.25 m (2dp) = Maximum height achieved.
    Returning velocity back to earth (before impact) = the initial velocity the arrow was fired 90.65m/s

      @Shaswat Kumar So if the speed of the arrow were say, 400 fps at the very tip of the bow immediately after the arrow leaves the track of the bow, that is propelled by the energy of the string being released.
      But once the arrow reaches its pinnacle of height and starts to head back down, it is then only propelled by gravity and its own mass being pulled by gravity,
      (The question here is): could the arrow reach the _exact_ same speed by only gravitational forces since it is not longer being propelled by an external energy force (the string)?
      Because at some point the energy of the arrow when pulled by gravity will equal out against the air resistance. What would the total speed potential be say if the total weight of the arrow was 400 grains?
      At some point it would cease to accelerate right?

      Now from work energy theorem:
      work done by all the forces= change in its kinetic energy
      0= Kf-Ki
      Let initial speed be u and final be v.
      0= 1/2mv^2-1/2mu^2
      Edit: Not how fast it was coming is same as how fast it left the crossbow. But speed at that point when it left the cross bow will be same.
      and also i have negleted air resistance.
