Why The US Has No High-Speed Rail

  • China has the world’s fastest and largest high-speed rail network - more than 19,000 miles, the vast majority of which was built in the past decade.
Japan’s bullet trains can reach nearly 200 miles per hour and date to the 1960s. They have moved more than 9 billion people without a single passenger causality. casualty
France began service of the high-speed TGV train in 1981 and the rest of Europe quickly followed.
But the U.S. has no true high-speed trains, aside from sections of Amtrak’s Acela line in the Northeast Corridor. The Acela can reach 150 mph for only 34 miles of its 457-mile span. Its average speed between New York and Boston is about 65 mph.
California’s high-speed rail system is under construction, but whether it will ever get completed as intended is uncertain.
Watch the video to see why the U.S. continues to fail with high-speed trains, and some companies that are trying to fix that.

A lot of libs in the comment section. I can't understand how California can start building a high speed train when they dont even own the property where it should run. It will be a cost disaster and in the end, will llikely never be finished.

Why is there no high speed rail here in America? The answer is simple. GREED. Other countries look to the future, to making things better for their citizens. But here in the good old USA, if you can't make a fast buck on it . . .

"political parties not see rail as our major form of transport - (a) the government is NOT of the people, by the people, for the people - but of the fat cats, by the believers, for the big companies
    (b) even if you had a high-speed rail network it would not work for high speed to be truly high speed this also becomes insufficient stops to be convenient
money, will power are not a thing anymore, how many people drive clear cut across the states THEN if you did high-speed rail there is Denver and the next stop is Glenwood springs, what about Breckenridge, ok stop there / Georgetown miss out e.c.t., the train will only be getting upto speed then slowing down (people forget about it speedup-slowdown)

people are thinking it is a threat to the CAR and not thinking high-speed as an aeroplane is there a Fairplay domestic airport NO - no high-speed at Intercourse so how that horse and buggy get to

    because we have cars..
didnt take me 16 minutes to say that either..
    cars are more useful
cars go where you want to go WHEN you want to go. trains just go to a station...
in some places its cheaper to buy a used car and junk it when you arrive then to buy a train ticket..
i dont share my car with disease filled strangers..
money spent on inefficient trains is money NOT spent on making roads better for cars..

Ultimately they explain why high-speed rail isn't a thing: burdensome regulation and property rights. We can't do anything about property rights because simply you cannot deprive someone without due compensation, and ultimately the government (local or federal) only give small dollar for land when compared to private transactions. The only other thing we can consider is government regulation. When even the government of California is prevented from moving forward with a project due to the Yellow Beaked Horntail Blue Eyed Plump Plumed Swallow (of which only 500 remain in the world... of which there were only a few thousand to begin with) making their nesting grounds in the swampy areas of this very small area.... then maybe it is time to rethink the environmental regulations that reduce the burden?
That and instead of building these high speed rails in the most populated places first, why not have them developed in the heartland where the ground is extremely flat and conducive to high speed rails? That way proofs of concept are...proven... and new manufacturing/building techniques can be discovered that then reduce the cost for implementing them in the tougher areas? I've done the 23 hour drive from El Paso to Alabama, and I can tell you that if I could of done that at 200 MPH for a fraction of what it would of cost me for a hotel, food, and gas... I would have taken it.
Honestly, it comes down to dollars. Find a way to reduce regulation, reduce costs, AND MAKE IT FINANCIALLY VIABLE and then everything else will fall into place.
Ultimately this comes down to government control: The market only accepts ideas that make sense, and pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into a project that has not proven itself sufficient WITHOUT constant infusions of tax payer dollars is a no-go. All of these "successful" super-rails are ultimately funded by the government with overall in-flow of cash being relatively inconsequential.
We need more ways to generate high paying jobs and spend money that can be sustained through the economy at large, not add an additional sink to throw money in (Looking at AMTRAK...)

As usual the media avoids the real issue. Yes, talk about the curves and many scientific reasons, or how Americans love their cars, but don't mention the real reason. The rails are privately owned and controlled by organized crime. Why are there so many derailments in the US, and not one in Japan? The rails are not well maintained in the US because that would take away from the profits. So building high speed trains and placing them on sub-standard rails is like building a formula 1 race car and driving it on a dirt road.

I'm not against hi speed rail, have lived in Europe. BUT. you take a train to another city. In the city you get another public transport rail/underground. But it won't take you to your house and sometimes you have a lot to carry or you are less able to walk from the rail to your house (could be miles). Teeny cars? Bikes are no good if you have a family with you. or infants.

We do and have had it for the better part of 20 plus years, unfortunately it was built as a black project underground and stretches from coast to coast and has expanded to Canada. Its energy source I've heard is nuclear. The only people that use it is government and military with high security clearance. Does it really exist, I'd say yes, definitely, one only has to take a look at our black budget expenses spent per year going back to the 1980's. Now the rumors that it connects to alien bases may be a bit far fetched but it would likely be connected to all of the major US military bases would be handy and beneficial strategically.

US has no evan low speed rail because doesn't need it and also there is no anyone who like to waist and lose money to invest in that. The rail is type of public transportation and apply to urban areas.USA is car-village/suburban country with provincial lifestyle, large population with super low density , long distances and exept Chicago and NYC there is no large urban areas that need rail or any other public transportation. Amtrak is a super duper expensive and its like roller coaster circle around and doesn't go anywhere !!!

I love how they show rush hour bumper to bumper traffic as if it were a problem that high-speed rail would solve...psy-ops in action...while high-speed rail can be good for travel, it doesn't do a thing for local heavy traffic...biggest problem with light rail are regional airlines and short-haul major airline routes, those companies don't want to lose money...well, if they invested in partnership with high-speed rail, they don't really lose much, if any, over long term as the loss in air routes they can get in rail transport as part of their investment returns....

We should legitimately just pay the Chinese to build a railway for us. Thats what we did back in the 1800’s and thats what they want to do anyway with their little belt and road initiative. Honestly I think i would be a positive but national pride my prevent us from doing it even if it would benefit both countries. Many countries in Africa have had Chinese companies build high speed rails and even Turkey has allowed the Chinese to build from the east to the west. If we have highways planes and rail the US would be a beast plus if were paying the Chinese they would have to meet certain conditions so there would be no risk in that way would could even work together and learn from each other.

The answer is very simple. The U.S. government is corrupt. Bought, and paid for, by the oil and auto industries, as well as, big pharma, airlines, and other corporate interests. Until the American people vote out the corrupt politicians, they will have to live in a backwards nation, as compared to the progressive Europeans, Asians, and perhaps one day, even Africa and the Middle East.
