Both my Parents were in the National Guard for most of my childhood so the less I saw my Parents the more Independent I became.
Even after they got out they weren't there for us and for the most part they never listened to us anyways.
I was raised to believe I'm all alone in the world that if I'm stuck on something I just have to suck it up and do the best I can do.
I've had Teachers teach me that lesson too when I raised my hand for help and they just ignored me.

I love it. I’m curious though what the outcome would be if she said yes let’s rethink the rules.
    I’m curious for pragmatic purposes.

“Force creates resistance”. That’s so true. What parents need to realize is the should be examples to us. You teach your child right from wrong and trust they will go down the right path. Control does not work at all!

This is a biggest croc of bullshit I've ever heard from an expert. Not only it is doubtful that such a conversation ever took place, he doesn't even practices what he preaches. Rules are no means of influence and point to complete lack of trust, Protectionism teaches absolutely nothing and only hurts the kid because it denies children the valuable lesson of learning by your own mistakes.

I once missed a party because my friends told me the party started at 9pm when it actually was supposed to be over at 9pm. Deciding it was too late to stop by I went home after work. The next day several classmates were missing. They had been arrested (underage drinking, fighting and loud) at the party which was taking place while parents were not home. I never looked at parties the same after that.

“Force creates resistance”. YES I apply this every day when I’m with my kids. I set rules firmly but allow them to have experiences. Life is so short you can guide them so much but ultimately just be there for them❤️

Experience have shown us that it is at around 21 years old that most western women tend to experiment the most. It's a good thing she did not get drunk and stoned and have one night stand at 17. So that she can at 21 xD

Letting a child discover the world with a father and mother as a coach. Thats the way to raise independent kids. Don't score the goal for them, but make sure they do their best.

I wish parents actually thought before giving punishments. Like if you caught your kid smoking weed, you *should* send him to a rehab center or get him to a doctor to help with withdrawals, ask him why he did it and how you can help with the problem that made him do that, inform them of the dangers, *THEN* ground them for 1-2 months. That’s what I’d do. these parents these days, they just spank and ground, when their kid could be going through withdrawals, crying themselves to sleep because of the problem that made them go to weed, and lacking motivation, desperately trying to find a way to satisfy the withdrawals.
    Parent smart please.

    • ShadowWolfRtL
      ShadowWolfRtL 5 months ago

Outside the ridiculous "weed" thing, I would imagine doing such a thing like rehab would push the kid further down the line where you wouldn't want them. Sending them to rehab might sound like a logical thing at first but it just creates the impression that there's something wrong with them and too far gone to be "help" by ones parents. That only professionals can help them.
I could mention that all the potential ways having a record of going to a drug rehab center can completely wreck their life later on when applying for college or jobs (especially with security clearance).
Besides, forcing anyone no matter the age but especially teens usually doesn't work.
You may want to diversify your perspective on things by reading up on multiple creditable sources (preferably ones that give different conclusions on the same topic) and ultimately come to you're own then educated conclusions. No one has the same perspective on anything, reach out to them.

If you know nothing about marijuana consumption, I suggest you not be so hard on your child. 1. You don't need rehab for a teenage pot smoker. 2. There are no withdrawal symptoms from marijuana use.

From the moment I became a father I am thinking about this. I came to a conclusion: If you wish to raise strong and successful children, teach them:
    To be honest
    To be courageous
    To be independent
    To be curious
    To be hard workers
