    About The Carol Burnett Show
While there’s no truth to the rumor that “CBS” ever stood for The Carol Burnett Show, for eleven seasons and 278 episodes, this star-studded extravaganza of sketch comedy, song and dance became entertainment central for the network and TV viewers. Burnett operated in a relaxed theater setting that allowed her to take questions, cut loose with her famous Tarzan yell and join fellow performers Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner to have a laugh or sing a song. The show received 25 Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globes, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.

REALLY wondering if the line "Let's have another kid" was totally ad-libbed by Harvey, seeing as Carol burst out laughing, like she totally wasn't expecting it...

This had to be Spring of 1968, because LBJ had just announced he wasn't running for re-election, Bobby Kennedy would be dead by June, and Nixon would be elected by November.... I was surprised this sketch was as early as the first season.

    • Connie Costello
Connie Costello 27 days ago +1

I was going to say the same thing. I find this sketch to be historically amazing. I was 12 that year, and I remember watching LBJ's announcement on a TV with three channels and no remote. I remember the day Dr. King died and then Bobby's terrible assassination. So much happened in such a short time. But we survived.

@Brooklyn Zen Everything about the Lawrence Welk show was clean and innocent. It was comprised of mostly folk-esque type music/dancing and for many families it was the only show approved for viewing and in some small towns it was the only "variety" show approved for airing on local tv stations. Years later PBS picked it up for continuous syndication showing the episodes based on the night/times as they had originally aired, Saturday evening's at 7/8/9pm based on geographical region. To be quite honest, LWS content could kill sexual desire if one were struggling with it 😆
SNL began to parody The Lawrence Welk Show some years ago and if you had previously seen the original LWS the SNL skits were even funnier, if you have a sense of humor.

    • Sue Prost

@Brooklyn Zen To turn on ... back then meant to get a person the mood for sex. Lawrence Welk was a show that was a familyshow and he was like a father or grandfather. That's why it wasn't possible to turn him on. Hope that helps.

I was just a teen in the mid 90's and had an old television down in my grandmother's basement. The only thing that seemed to come in clear was channel 12 PBS, and on Saturday evenings around 7 o'clock, the Lawrence Welk Show use to come on. I have to admit i grew to love and appreciate The Lawrence Welk Show. And till this day it still has a special fondness with me. I still enjoy that "glee club-esque" type singing.
