Does it sound like a provoking scam to get people to buy PS4 now? OTherwise I don't see the plus sides. 8K? WTF? Streaming in 8K will be like, forget about your income, it will go to internet!!!!

Hate the streaming idea. But in my opinion, i think it will be a good idea if they will compile and make all games compatible in one physical console. Like the classic games. Remember the ready player one movie hahahahh

You know, home gaming HAS NOT changed for almost 50 years. You had a box, a controller, a game you attach to the box and a monitor (TV) where you watch the game. Nowadays, you have absolutely the same. Nothing else. The difference is that you have the option to play it differently. You have internet and games are being patched and updated.
If gaming really started to be a streaming business, it would probably be a disaster. All gaming shops would close, players would have to rely on internet connection, servers might crash and cause problems, input lag would be a standard, servers would be TOTALLY overloaded and many other bad things.
However, I totally don't believe that it will happen. Why? Because of many smaller backlashes that games had. Take Spyro Reignited. Gamers were (are) outraged that they HAD to download many levels from 2nd and 3rd game. It basically meant that not all games are on the disc and NOT EVERYBODY has a good internet connection. And that's just the levels, not whole game. We simply want our games to OWN. Or take Xbox One, when they announced it HAD to be always connected to the internet. What a backlash that was. And if this happened to all the games on the world, gaming would simply cease to exist.

do you think netflix cared about the people that worked at video libraries ?
do you think mp3 sellers cared about people making CDs ?
people working at these shops can just get other jobs , someone at a local gamestop even switched to working at a T-shirt and merch shop a few months ago ( basically its a store thats filled with anime , videogame , tv show , etc tshirts , merch etc, got a fairy tail tshirt from there already

    • Denis Seres
Denis Seres 5 months ago +1

Well, people working in these shops would care.
But that's the point with Spyro. Some people who bought it don't even have internet, or it is very slow. Installing with discs takes a few minutes, but downloading takes HOURS or even DAYS, if you don't have solid internet connection. It has almost 70 GB. For me, it takes days to download.
Plus, many people, including me, love physical copies. And collectors too. That would be the end.

    • Minene Uryuu922 I PC Masterrace I
      Minene Uryuu922 I PC Masterrace I 5 months ago

and why would anyone care about gaming shops closing ? my local gamestops are filled with merchandise , gaming is already becoming the smalller half recently , years ago , it used to be only gaming
since you mentioned spyro , with digital only games that problem doesnt exist , since the whole game is located on a server and you just download it

This seems to be the last generation of games where we don't so much as own games as temporarily house them until the developers decide they can't be bothered to keep the service running anymore. Wake up guys, we are loosing control of our games.

And honestly I fucking love it cus I switched my Xbox 360 controller on my pc to a PS4 controller with an emulator. Also, with the service I use for emulation the touchpad becomes a trackpad like a mouse on my pc. Nicest thing lol. Also, PS4 controller is best feeling controller available rn. Change my mind.

Streaming would eventually reverse. People just like physical media for its guaranteed use. You can still play any non online game or multiplay. Streaming items and online servers can be removed or shut down if no longer profitable. Physical cant as you own it. Microsoft already had to reverse policy in 2013. Even other physical media are coming back now like Music Records. Yes there are some advantages to streaming but it encourages devs to release early and debug issues later. Plus some people have better connections than others, whereas physical media means everyone is on a level playing field.

i own a physical copy of paper mario 2 and super paper mario
cant play them as i have no wii anymore , and the tv i used for my gamecube had its hdmi thingy broken so i couldnt use it as a 3rd monitor anymore
good thing i own the games , cant play it because technology doesnt always support old things
meanwhile my steam games range from a 1998 - 2018 release and all are playable , the oldest being half life 1 , and the newest being final fantasy 15 or any other game that released this year
i have 1112 games on steam , from all sorts of platforms and years , all playable on a single pc with windows 10
      digital is the best way

+Moon Chill the fuck out bro. I'm saying faster internet is inevitable, however incremental. A decent internet connection IN THE USA these days can play Assassins Creed Odyssey at 1080p relatively smoothly over streaming. Also, why would any telecom company stifle the ability to stream games when they could sell faster internet for more money to meet the demand of game streaming?

    • Moon
      Moon 6 months ago

+Avratin Really? You obviously don't know how much power and influence these big telecoms have, especially with all their bribe money to politicians to influence the laws and keep their monopolies/duopolies, etc. You have no clue what the hell you're talking about. I'm talking about the USA for now, just look at the history of these companies.

No, my loyalty to companies that try that, is what will go away..
Pirates, emulators, and new creations & solutions in tech, (swollen by popular demand), will ensure we get our way..
The more you piss off & alienate your own business market, and the more you try to manipulate or dictate to people.. the less of them spend their hard earned $ with you, and go & very quickly spend them elsewhere..
And that will usually be with either your competition, or funding new ways to get around you..
Which is just extra added insult & loss of revenue, (that could've just been easily yours to begin with) add to that injury, if you wont take care of your clients..
Someone elsewhere will get rich very quickly, doing it for you..all of it $ you could've/should've been making..
      You do the math.
Countries like China don't recognise 'copyright' and neither do underground/outlaw mafia groups, or any other pirates, for that matter..
And you wonder why you then get charged increasingly insulting and outrageous shelf-prices for games!?
It's a vicious cycle that will only be broken when we, as paying consumers, get what we like enough to pay for, from makers & manufacturers..and i will get an ACTUAL GAME for my money.
We 'vote' with our $ mate..and there are many millions of us worldwide..
We may have to wait a year or 2..but we always get what we want, kid..eventually.
It's not an issue only of tech..its an issue of corporate tyranny..
And turn-about is always perfectly fair play.

Absolutely nothing to be sorry about mate, hold your head up high & ROAR it to the fuckers..
WE ALL WANT FULL, PERMANENT HARD Copies of our games, for our hard earned dollars!
STOP supporting ANY company that fails to understand that, and they'll soon Fail & Fall..
Especially when they know that only the companies that DO get it..will keep getting wealthy & supported by the masses.
Vote with your dollars, any game you might miss out on in the short term, will soon be picked-up & created by a company not going broke..or you can pay pirates & emulator creators to provide for you..sending a double big finger to the rip-off merchants..
While you ACTIVELY & HONESTLY SUPPORT the folks doing it right, and thank them often for it!

I was high key hoping that no new console generations would be made BUT (like pc) there would be upgrades. So instead of buying a new $500 console every 3 years, you buy a new graphics card. That's why I was really excited to see the ps4 pro and xbox one x cuz it kind of showed a step in that direction

    • Minene Uryuu922 I PC Masterrace I
      Minene Uryuu922 I PC Masterrace I 5 months ago

thats not possible , the reason PC has no gens is because it doesnt need them , PC has games that are 360 / ps3 gen , they run on basically every pc or laptop , same with indie games like binding of isaac
consoles however are mass produced and at the time they come out they already are rather weak
the ps4 pro was just meant for psvr , nothing more
its also not unlikely for consoles to die in the next decade because they cant keep up , ps5 will once again fail to do 4k like the pro and x , meanwhile i decided to take a step back with my pc and go for 1440 144hz instead of 2160p 60hz
      thats something consoles cant do

K, so Im not getting that. Looks like 10 more years of PS4 for me please.
Streaming is a bad idea. Streaming is not the future. People want to own games, not rent them.
As of september 2018, 1/5th of America had a constant internet speed of 25mbs or higher, this doesn't count countries like Australia who is known for it's bad internet infrastructure or places all across Europe who can't even get a solid connection half the time. There are too many people in the world who don't have the ability to watch this video at 1080p, now just imagine what running a game would be like. People like collecting and being able to wake up and play a game (not having to worry about the services getting shut down in 15+ years after launch) Imagine if the N64, PS2, or Xbox 360 did that? There wouldn't be anyone playing or collecting anything for them since they'd be a memory, and just think of all of the content lost to the sands of time as of this comment. There are games that were exclusively digital and they were taken off the market over licensing disagreements, Publishing rights shifting or getting lost, or the game devs going under. I remember when these same "experts" said motion controls were the future of gaming, or handheld gaming........wonder why im not using a kinect right now :/ guess I gotta wait another 30 years for it to be the future again.

Here's a quick moment of silence for the games and services of the past 8 years that we've lost
    XBox original live
    Scott pilgrim
Digital versions of most activision games before 2015
    WII ware
    DSI ware
    virtual cosole
the 13 MMO's that got shut down
the countless DLC lost to time
other steam based platforms for your TV that were also called the future of gaming

Don't get me wrong mate, i agree with you about getting rid of the need for the disk as a key..Hell, I'd be impressed if we could load our full games onto the drive, (either internal or optional external).
      That's an excellent idea.
But i still want a full, permanent physical copy, of all my that i can always re-load/re-install it if it ever gets corrupted, wiped, hacked, virused, or a power surge/blackout does it's thing..or it conflicts with a mod..etc, etc.
Then there are those of us who dont have & can't get home internet, or would have to pay thousands to get it..
We ain't all city kids, and some of us love our freedoms & space.. Loyal girlfriends, Guns, bows & arrows, big dogs & bikes..all the joys of semi-rural living.
      But i digress..
These are not difficult concerns to understand..and i fail to see how you wouldn't want that 'solid' when they decide you can't buy an electronic copy anymore, or won't be providing it anymore..and you've paid good money, for a game that you DON'T ACTUALLY OWN or posess, in a real form..
Your gonna feel pretty damn silly, sooner than later..
I'll simply be reloading mine, as I've got them all right here, forever.
And even if the console's or harddrives break down & cant be fixed, or their data retrieved..I'll still be able to get emulators made to run them on other machines & devices..
      Where will your 'copy' be?
What are you being 'allowed' to do with it..?
Send me a postcard in about 5 years, mate..let me know how your way works out for you..I'll be interested.
In the meantime, have a great day.

whats the difference between a physical copy and digital , physical comes on a disc or cartridge , digital you download onto a HDD ( hard *DISK* drive ) or a SSD ( which basically is like sd cards or cartridges technology wise )
you even install your physical discs onto a hdd , so why not get rid of the physical key you need to insert to be allowed to access the game thats installed on your consoles hdd ?

Agreed, i won't ever pay good, real, hard-earned get NOTHING in hand, that i can't always take directly home, and always physically play on my system, in my home..and with a damn good story & single-player campain, entirely without internet!
Only a full physical copy qualifies to me, and I'm already entirely untrusting of sony and its online security & network issues..(+ recent Windows-10 'unknown' deletion of files issues, anyone?)
Stuff gets corrupted, or virused, or just goes fritz for no apparent try getting a replacent copy, or 'proving' it wasn't your fault..or that it WAS theirs..and without it becoming a bullshit legal battle that would cost you far more than any game was ever worth to win, even if you were fully in the right to begin with.
They do that, i start bouycotting them, and actively backing, supporting & paying pirates & emulators for their games..while giving my real honest support & money only to the companies that do it right,
Turn-about is perfectly fair play after-all.
I could accept a new medium for games, such as each one coming (as a full-copy) on its own tiny, dedicated, mini-flashdrive, (instead of disks for example), as tech gets better..and more solidly reliable..
But that's as far as i go.
I still insist on a full, permanent copy for my $. Period.
      Always have, Always will.
