I laughed at that old guy's "Down here". where is "down here" actually located??? Where is above??? The Sky??? the whole ozone layer??? If you look down on the ground on a transparent perspective, you will still see the sky from the other side of the earth. It seems like he meant that the outermost layer of earth is "Down here" and maybe "Above there" as heaven(which technically reachable by humans as of this age) and Earth's core as hell.

I 100% Believe in GOD that all things are possible. Looking at nature, How rain falls from the sky The sun rising and setting. No man can explain that. As for believers and non believers There are many reasons for doubt. The main one is The injustices in the world. Why allow it? This goes back to the beginning( you must go back the root for the reason of things) Genesis GOD created the earth, the birds, all the animals and man. everything was Perfect. Adam and Eve were without shame, sorrow, pain etc. until eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. From then on all these things can into creation and passed down to the descendants. Mankind the cause of all injustice.

Hmm.. The issue with life not having intrinsic value was a weak argument brought up by Nancy. Putting religion aside, think about the theories that philosophical and political thinkers such John Locke and Thomas Jefferson had brought to life. As humans, we have the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. These standards give our lives value, as on paper not one person is greater than another. If life was not valuable, we would not have arguments such as these inalienable rights. As well, if one counters by saying these rights are only applicable to American citizens, the response would be that these thoughts and ideologies were derived from Latin, Greek, Roman philosophers, and thus are universal to every person, due to the diverse thought put into them. Jefferson wrote these in the Declaration of Independence as a model for other countries to adopt into their own society. The document is timeless, making any country at anytime able to adopt such intrinsic values. You don't need religion to realize that life has worth and value; this topic goes back centuries in philosophy, psychology, stoicism, etc. Sorry Nancy, but you put yourself into a pretty deep predicament there. Just by living, you are intrinsically valuable

@FRO NOMINAL The only one condescending here is you.
There is no evidence for God. Point blank. If evidence was ever presented, those who are agnostic atheists would believe in that particular deity.
No. If you don't believe in God, you are an atheist. An atheist is "lack of a belief in a God or Gods."
Agnosticism is an adjective, not a noun. It literally means the existence of God is unknown.
She is both. So the old man is wrong. She does not know whether or not a God exists (agnostic) but she does not believe in one (atheist).
I love how people always stop a conversation when they are clearly proven wrong. By the way, a dead carpenter that may have never existed cannot love me.

    • FRO NOMINAL
      FRO NOMINAL 3 days ago

@TombWraith Soooo, if the evidence is there then she believes God exists and if the evidence is not there, which according to you is what she means, she doesnt believe in God. Literally characteristic of agnostic. Simply put, Dont believe in God period = atheist. Dont deny God's existence, but dont believe due to alleged lack of evidence = agnostic.
But dont sweat it, "you people" commonly don't open dictionaries.
Feel free to reply back condescendingly to the get last word, Im done trying give a simple explanation. Dont forget Jesus loves you. 👍🏿

    • TombWraith
      TombWraith 3 days ago

@FRO NOMINAL No it literally isn't. She said "declaration that there is no God" implying she is not denying that a God COULD exist. But she makes it very obvious she doesn't believe in one.
You people commonly confuse knowledge with belief.

    • FRO NOMINAL
      FRO NOMINAL 3 days ago

@TombWraith when the other guy asks "from the view of someone who doesn't believe...?" She says "atheist isn't per say a declaration that one doesn't believe in God." But it literally is. Textbook definition in fact. Based on what she said, she came across as an agnostic.

    • TombWraith
      TombWraith 3 days ago

No he's not. She clearly doesn't believe in God. She is an atheist. She is also agnostic. Those are not mutually exclusive terms.

Christianity is a belief, and as a Christian i honestly believe you should respect everyone’s beliefs. not everyone will agree with you. and that’s all there is to it. God wouldn’t want you screaming at people telling them you’re right when you could be just being kind.

We don’t know everything, once we accept that I think the world will be a better place. Faith is important to some but it’s faith, not everyone has to believe it. Our ancestors would think as magicians with the things we are capable of now, or predecessor may be god like to us with what they will be capable of. Magic and “gods work” are simply things we are yet to understand. They used to believe meteorites were people from heaven, until we understood them. Believing or not believing should not be important, respecting one another regardless of there belief is. You have a right to believe in god, I have a right to state it is questions we simply don’t have answers to at the moment. The universe is an amazing thing, if I’m proved wrong then that’s on me. Don’t force your beliefs into others, that old dude was not open to conversation.

Atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive terms. Atheism deals with the question of belief, whereas agnosticism deals with the question of knowledge. I myself am an agnostic atheist, because I don't hold a belief in a god (atheism), but I don't claim to know that a god doesn't exist (agnosticism).

Either you actively believe a god exists or you don't. If you actively believe a god exists, you're a theist. If you don't actively believe a god exists, you're an atheist.

It’s a great video, but BOTH sides have FAR better arguments out there. So if the goal was to get “average” opinions from “regular” people, then good job. But if you want to really paint a full picture on both sides - then you would want to get a better “sample” of diversity (on both sides). As someone who has studied this deeply, these people are wonderful - but so many more academic arguments exist for all of them. But in the end, the most important thing is to LOVE and RESPECT one another. These kind of conversations are greatly needed. So thank you. BOTH sides can learn (and maybe even teach) one another.

  • Cosmic Fang

Ok first, the term agnostic is a descriptor, an adjective, meaning trying to use it as a stand-alone noun is nonsensical. It has to be followed by a noun to be complete. To say someone is "agnostic" is to say that they lack knowledge. But in what? That is why it needs a noun to accompany it like atheist. Someone who's an agnostic atheist is one who does not know if a god or gods exist and therefore, don't believe in them.
Second, you don't get to describe someone else's position. Especially if you're woefully undereducated and misinformed on the topic like this older man who seems to believe, in error, that being "agnostic" means you still believe in the supernatural. If you're going to have a discussion that's as charged as this one, it's best to allow each side to state their position and go from there. Not form a straw man of or for the opposition's position. It poisons the entire discussion as you can't move forward because the straw man has to be addressed.
The older guy wasn't interested in a discussion or understanding the other side's position but in dominating the conversation and making claims while being unchallenged. It would seem to me that he has some things to work out before he can have a productive conversation on this topic.

We should all be so confident in facts assuming one has done the proper research. but now I see why people don't want to believe in objectivity with people like the old man spouting nonsense and claiming it as a fact, this tarnishes the entire foundation of facts and is a sin against humanity. However, people who choose to ignore a fact when provided the proper research and explanation are as big of a plague if not bigger on this earth,

I think it’s kinda sad, when ur in a community and one person, ONE PERSON, makes us looks bad, and because of that one person, we get a lot of hate. I’m a Christian, and I feel like the old guy was trying to force them on what he believes. Just because the Bible’s says this and that, doesn’t mean that people will also believe in it. But yes, we are “imperfect”, we all sin, and we will always sin.
