5 Best And 5 Worst Things In Frozen 2

  • Six years after the original film, Frozen II has finally arrived in theaters. But do the new songs work as well as the old ones? Are the new characters worth falling in love with? Does Olaf still love warm hugs? Here's a spoiler-filled look at the five best and five worst things in Frozen II.
Frozen launched into the stratosphere as one of the biggest family films ever in 2013 for a number of reasons, but one of the most important was its centerpiece song, "Let It Go," which any parent can no doubt recite from bitter memory.
But while there are certainly attempts in Frozen 2 to recapture some of that "Let It Go" magic, even the planned showstopper "Into the Unknown" doesn't quite reach those heights. It was a tall order, to be sure, but the film can't quite rise to it.
Still, if you don't compare the songs to "Let it Go," there are joys to be found, especially in Kristoff's goofy power ballad "Lost in the Woods," which gives Broadway star-turned-Disney darling Jonathan Groff a chance to do his best REO Speedwagon impression. Add in a chorus of reindeer backup singers, and it's the most pleasant surprise in the film.
The Frozen films might be for kids of all ages, but they're also inventive fantasy adventures that employ their own rich sense of mythology, magic, and worldbuilding. It's a lot of backstory for kids to understand, so how does Frozen 2 address this? Have Olaf stop everything to give the new characters what's essentially a recap of the first film. Keep watching the video to see the 5 best and 5 worst things in Frozen 2!

Okay just going to say I understand this is the creators opinion and such and hey...nothing wrong with that. That being said I must say many of these points I must disagree with:
    1) Olaf's recap is amusing/adorable imho. It not only brings any new viewers (as in those who have not seen Frozen 1) up to speed on what happened in the previous movie but also seamlessly keeps said explanation "in universe" by Olaf explaining to the new characters (i.e. Arendellian soldiers and Northuldrans) so it doesnt seem "out of place" (as it fits with Olafs overall silly demeanor).
    2) They seriously feel that Frozen 2 doesnt match "Let It Go" in terms of song awesomeness?!? Im sorry but WTF?!? Show Yourself is FUCKING AMAZING! Into the Unknown is AMAZING!! The Next Right Thing is HEARTBREAKING....and AMAZING!
    3) Okay yeah the new secondary characters (Lt Mattis, Honeymary, etc) arent like HEAVILY involved in the movie but well...you shouldn't be surprised!! The movie (like the first) CLEARLY centers around Elsa, Anna, Kristoff/Sven, and Olaf with the secondary characters kind of "filling the gaps". Lt Mattis is there to give a "face" to the Arendellian soldiers referenced at the beginning, same as Ryder and Honeymary and the Northuldra leader (okay yes....im currently brainfarting and can't recall her name and im fairly certain she DOES say it in the movie) but yeah...the movie is not ABOUT any of them. It's like saying Aladdin doesn't focus much on the palace guards (the head guy you learn his name....brain fart atm...but yeah...do they really center on them much at all? NOPE cause the movie isnt about them!)
    4) Yeah the movie kind of "surges" forward early on but its a Disney movie! Like most (if not all) are under 2 hours. If they had had the group fiddle fart around in Arendelle for too long then they would have had to rush the middle/end. Much better to get the audience right into the exciting part (i.e. going to and travelling through the Enchanted Forest!).
    4) They comment about the characters not changing much in between Frozen 1 and Frozen 2.....and yet they basically whine about Olaf's recap segment. Um....yeah....if they HAD had the characters change much in between they would have had to have explained said change somehow otherwise the audience would have been left confused and thus would have had to basically have a SECOND recap segment somehow. Also...Frozen Fever and Olafs Frozen Adventure! HELLO!! There is some in between RIGHT THERE!)

I disagree with Lost in the Woods being one of the best parts about Frozen 2. That sequence was as random and awkwardly out of place as Shiny in Moana. Olaf's recap was worth it to watch Lieutenant Mattias's reactions as the audience. I do agree that we needed to see more of the new characters though. It wasn't enough. I want another Frozen short that shows more of the Northuldra tribe, just like how we got to know the holiday traditions of the citizens of Arendelle in Olaf's Frozen Adventure.

Frozen 2 helped me like Frozen 1 better. The Olaf recap was hilarious.
Overall the movie was great, but there are some places where is just creates more questions and less closure.
Also the water has memory factoid was mentioned several times in the movie by Olaf first and Elsa many times.

yeah to be honest it seemed at a few points that scenes were too rushed, i guess it would have been better if the movie had like 10 min more screentime

you´re comparing Into the Unknown with Let it Go, but actually Show Yourself is THE song from Frozen 2 and it can´t be compared with Let it Go, it´s a 11/10 for itself, so the first point doesn´t apply

  • Corsuwey
    Corsuwey 10 days ago

"Lost in the Woods" was the WORST part!
Absolutely no continuity with any of the other songs and was just a sad, sappy, 80s ballad that could have easily been cut out or shortened without any harm to the overall story.

Forgetting the names of the new characters?
    Lets see:

    Arendelle soldiers:
    Lieutenant (Then General) Mattias
    Northuldra:
    Ryder
    Honeymaren
    Yelana
    Elemental Spirits:
    Bruni- Fire Spirit
    Gale- Air Spirit
    Nokk- Water Spirit
    Rock Giants: Earth Spirits

Yeah because the characters are SOOOOO forgettable!!!!! They are all great additions to the franchise!!!!!

Okay. Olaf’s recap was the best part! It is not one of the worst! It might not have worked if it were in the first movie but since it’s a sequel, the audience got what he was talking about and everyone in the theater I was in was laughing.

ok first: Olaf exposition genius, hilarious and the cut from everything IS THE POINT
second: 3 years as stagnant? not really the shorts are important and you can see the difference from who they are as characters and it shows

The worst thing of Frozen2 I found is there is no villain in Frozen2 whereas Frozen had Hans. Also, I think Frozen2 lacks emotions and it didn't make me cry at all as Frozen did.
One more thing, Elsa's and Anna's father was a brunette and in Frozen2 they showed him as a blond.

I know to each their own and everyone can have his own opinion and blah blah blah... but you saying the song Into the Unknown didnt live up to surpass Let it go well... in my opinion is pretty stupid to think it should/was made with the intention to surpass it. It was made to convey what Elsa has been feeling, the exact same thing they did for the first movie abd hey if you prefer one over the other thats fine its all up to our preferences but just stop and think... the theme works very well just like it did last movie for Elsa this time seeking more out of herself and her powers like what else could you ask for?
